The American DJ

L
Raido journeyman BigD sits down for an Interveiw

At First Glance Wayne Danielson is your typical Minnesotan, wife a newly born baby girl and a modest home in new hope.

But on any given night with the radio dial tuned just right you might be able to catch him at what he does best. Entertaining over two million listeners across the Twin Cities. For you see Mr. Danielson has quite an amazing job he’s your American DJ.

Wayne Danielson better known as Big D has been talking on the air for thirty years in over a dozen cities but with modernization catching up with the radio industry his job is threated on a daily basis.

Stations are cutting back on   DJ’s at a alarming pace and talking with Big D it seems as though his job maybe be soon cut as well through out my interview he brought up the fact that the personal connection with the listeners is no longer relevant anymore it’s all about the bottom line and who can do it cheaper due to fact that voice tracking  is much cheaper.

Seeing this brought some emotions I decided to ask a question,

which was a tough for him to answer. Given his thirty years in the radio world and seeing what’s happening to many great DJ’s did he ever wished he picked a different career given the fact the that he has a family to provide for.

The answer, yes admitting he wouldn’t know what he would have done since radio has been his dream growing up and now is his dream job. If he could do it all over again .He would have never picked up the microphone and put on the headphones.

What will be the fate of the American DJ?

will all the stations be voice tracked out by a hand full of DJ’s across America or will there be no DJ’s like some stations have gone to like JACK FM . All we know is the future looks very bleak.
